It was a 2010 mixtape titled Tsunami that initially turned the heads of a significant number of people, before their cover of Jay-Z and Kanye West's 'Otis' racked up millions of YouTube views in less than a week in early 2011. When a gunman burst into Konan's mother's home that summer, injuring her and fatally shooting his stepfather, the duo subsequently dealt with the incident in the autobiographical 'My Story.' Later that year, the Tottenham-born grime artist Skepta invited them to open for him in Glasgow. Although this was effectively Krept & Konan's first gig, it cemented a relationship between the three, and Skepta continued to promote their music online, as did such luminaries of the U.K. Scene as Wretch 32 and Professor Green.

2011–2014: Young Kingz and commercial breakthrough [ ]. Main article: In 2011, they released a cover of 's and 's 'Otis' which helped them rise to fame. The video reached five million views in its first five days of being uploaded to YouTube. However, with much pressure received from 's legal team the video was removed from the duo's profile. Undeterred by the controversy, they released a cover of and 's 'The Motto', launched their own clothing line called Play Dirty and early into 2012 were invited to join the British rapper on his tour in the UK. They appeared on 's 2011 mixtape and in 2013 they released their third mixtape, with features from,, G FrSH,,, Yungen, Ari, Yana Toma, Fekky, Siah and Anthony Thomas. The album's promotional single 'Don't Waste My Time' rose to fame in January 2014, with notable artists such as,,, G FrSH, Double S, Lady Leshurr, Yungen,, Dru Blu, and all contributing to remixes of the track.
